And I still stand by that – in glazed black leather, this bag is boring, plain and simple. But there’s something about the color combination in the Fendi Two-Tone Baguette that makes me enormously fond of the bag, and it just goes to show you what good a small tweak can do.

The juxtaposition of the blush leather with the black trim and light gold chain handle gives the bag a more authentically retro look than just a solid color by itself. At the same time, the combination is positively Parisian, giving the bag an obvious audience in fashion’s many Francophiles (and probably not staving off any of the nagging Chanel comparisons any time soon). The proportion of the bag is petite enough to be worn to a fancy dinner or cocktail party, but I could also easily see it paired with dark denim and a cashmere sweater for fall and winter. To tell you the truth, I think the bag is kinda cute. The only problem is that it is definitely not something you could wear every day. And given the fact that this bag is rather small and chocked-full of sequins, it almost looks like an evening bag. What I find most interesting about this bag the signature canvas that lies beneath the layer of sequins. When you look at the bag straight-on, you can’t see the pattern. However, when you look at the bag from an angle, those familiar little F’s magically appear. Cool effect, huh?

The House of Fendi did it again; they created a roomy shopper bag like no other. Meet the Zucca Patent Leather Tote, an accessory that only a few gals can pull off, without looking tacky. I apologize to any fans of this piece, but I’d have to say this tote bag is definitely too busy to call classy. Made up of glossy patent leather sporting snake skin prints in a variety of hues, it looks rather cheap and definitely not Fendi standards. I dislike the actual finish, and the black patent trimmings don’t better this shopper in anyway. Most would call this shopper style practical for everyday wear, I would agree, but couldn’t Fendi have added at least some hardware for luxe purposes? Besides the cheesy prints it’s too simple and the 12” x 12” x 4” dimensions create an extra boxy shoulder bag that doesn’t look too comfy after all. More details include the 10” thin double flat shoulder straps, no closure, but a practical zipper divider can be found within the tote.

Amanda posted earlier about the Fendi Beaded Clutch and it kind of inspired me a bit. She was dead on when she talked about Fendi’s glory days dating back to Sex and the City. This multicolored box clutch has what I certainly consider to be gorgeous hand stitched and painted cotton flower detailing.

With a satin front, black leather lining and silver tone trim, this clutch is surely a head turner. Besides the price, the only thing I am not a fan of is the fastening top; it just doesn’t fit with the rest of the bag. But, I might be able to look past that and go back to focusing on the fact that I actually found a flirty Fendi bag I wouldn’t mind carrying around. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $2140.

It feels just like Sex and the City did, which is to say it doesn’t feel new. Fendi, as a brand, seems to be stuck circa 1999 in their accessories department, and although the baguettes are an important part of handbag history, I wish they’d innovate a little more. The Spy bag was great, of course, and a lot of people liked the B-Bag, but if you’re only producing two popular handbags per decade, you need to get with the program. As a brand, they’ve got such amazing resources and possibilities, I’m not sure why they’re still living in the past. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $2140.
